Overall, 2011 was an important and successful year for the Ford brand.
The Ford Mondeo was awarded the title of 'Greenest Family Car' by WhatCar?. It represented two important accomplishments – strong family-friendly appeal and impressive efficiency.
A 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine in the car provided the award-winning level of fuel economy. With the engine, the Mondeo was capable of as much as 65.6mpg.
WhatCar? went on to name the Mondeo as both Best Family Car and Best Estate Car for the year. Given that the model had only been on sale for a few months at the time, the awards proved the instant appeal and success of the new-generation Mondeo.
The prizes formed part of a raft of double wins for Ford during the year. Diesel Car Magazine gave awards to both the Mondeo and Focus, and at the Fleet World awards the Focus joined the Transit as a winner.
2011 was also the year in which the Ford S-MAX clinched a fifth BusinessCar title. The confident seven-seater vehicle was named the Best MPV over several consecutive years.
