News reports from the first few months of this year reveal that new car sales in 2015 hit a record high. Around 2.6 million vehicles were sold in the UK during the year. The figures were announced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Amongst the many impressive numbers, several Ford cars are in the top ten for 2015 sales overall. The Fiesta has once again taken the top spot, with 133,434 new registrations. To meet demand for the Fiesta, Ford had to raise production levels by 300 cars a day.
The model you can see in Ford showrooms right now is the sixth generation of the Fiesta. It is expected that Ford will bring out another new version of the car during 2017.
Figures for 2015 mean that the Fiesta has been the number one in UK new car sales for seven consecutive years. Drivers have consistently chosen it as their preferred vehicle since 2009 – and it has led almost every year since it first went on sale.
The Fiesta became the best-selling model ever in the UK in 2014, claiming the number one spot in Europe at the same time. Since the launch of the car in 1976, total sales have reached more than four million. This beats the record first set by the Ford Escort, which also sold over four million models throughout Europe.
Over the years, the Fiesta has built and maintained a reputation for being reliable to drive and efficient with fuel. Ownership of the car is a 'rite of passage', according to The Telegraph. It holds identical appeal for business or family use.
In all driving situations, you can rely on the vehicle to maintain a high level of protection. The Fiesta holds a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Other Euro NCAP Advanced awards have been given to the car's technologies, such as Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance and the secure MyKey system.
Numerous other awards confirm the hatchback's suitability for a wide variety of drivers. During 2014, the Fiesta was named as the Telegraph Motoring Awards Car of the Year, the Auto Express Awards Best Supermini, and WhatCar?'s Best Small Car. It also joins the Mondeo and Focus as a Fleet News Awards winner.
A total of six engines available to power the Fiesta emit CO2 below 100g/km. One of your options is Ford's 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. This engine is chosen by around 40 percent of UK drivers who buy a Fiesta. The turbo charged power system is a four-time International Engine of the Year. It claimed a total of eight global engine awards in the space of four years.
Another way in which the Fiesta range has continued to shine was with the debut of the 'hot hatch' ST version. Within 12 months of going on sale, the Fiesta ST won 22 awards. The next generation of the model is the ST-2, which is WhatCar?’s Best Hot Hatch for 2016.
Just as the Fiesta has earned a rightful place as a driver’s favourite, other Ford cars are claiming similarly impressive figures. The Ford Focus came third in 2015 and second in 2014. It is also offered with the EcoBoost engine, and remains one of Ford's three flagship cars, next to the Fiesta and the Mondeo.
