The new Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max both received a maximum five stars for safety from Euro NCAP this week. The pair of MPVs went on sale this month and excelled in adult and child safety, achieving the highest score recorded for whiplash protection. Euro NCAP introduced new crash test procedures last year and the two cars are the first Ford passenger vehicles to undergo testing under the new system.
Both the C-Max and Grand C-Max have Ford innovative new Intelligent Protection System installed, which combines a high strength body structure and advanced restraint systems to give maximum safety. Gunnar Herman, medium car vehicle line director at Ford said,
“Crash test ratings are an important factor when designing and engineering our vehicles and we’re delighted that Euro NCAP has recognised that both the new C-Max and Grand C-Max models offer excellent protection in the event of a collision.”
As part of the IPS, the vehicles are both fitted with three-point safety belts in the rear and ISOFIX seating mounts. The Grand C-Max also features a reminder system that alerts the driver if any passengers do not have their safety belts fastened correctly. Herman commented of the five star rating for safety,
“These are the first vehicles to be built on our new global C-car platform and for them to score so highly bodes well for future products including the all-new Focus which goes on sale next year.”
