The new Ford Focus has been awarded the best family car in the Association of 'Scottish Motoring Writers’, Car of the Year Awards. The president of the Scottish Motor Writers, John Murdoch, presented the award and said, "In this, Ford's centenary year and our 50th anniversary year, it is with great pleasure that we can jointly celebrate the success of the Focus as winner of one of the toughest categories – best family car”.

The Ford Focus features Ford’s Torque Vectoring Control system which balances the distribution of the engine torque between both driving wheels in order to maximise the level of grip and stability of the car. The new Focus also comes with a standard DAB digital radio on all models alongside Bluetooth, USB connectivity, voice control, ESP and front, side and curtain airbags to optimise protection in the event of an accident.

The ‘Edge’ trim model of the new Focus has a 1.6 litre petrol engine which is capable of producing 104bhp, however there is also the option of a 94bhp turbo-diesel engine. The most popular trim model of the Focus is the ‘Zetec’. This is because it has 16 inch alloy wheels, a quick-clear front windscreen which is ideal for the cold winter mornings, a leather steering wheel, front fog lights and sport seats.

There are three 1.6 litre petrol engines available which produce 104bhp, 123bhp and 148bhp and either 1.6 or 2.0 litre diesel engines that produce 94bhp, 123bhp, 138bhp and 161bhp.

As with any Ford, there is a wide range of features and extras available on the new Ford Focus as well as a significant advance in on board technology. The new Focus has a driver impairment monitoring system which consists of a road-monitoring camera and is designed entirely to notify the driver of their alertness levels. This is carried out by displaying a coffee cup on the instrument display if the car thinks the driver isn’t alert and needs to take a break and a steering wheel symbol is shown if the car believes the driver is alert.

The new Ford Focus has a lane departure warning system which alerts the driver if their car is veering onto another lane if traveling above 40mph. Another advanced feature is the speed sign recognition system which is capable of reading road speed signs and displaying the current speed limit on the instrument display.
