This iconic hot-hatch is now even better, with its characteristic high-performance and head-turning looks even further enhanced. Significant technological developments have been made in the new Focus ST, with multiple driver aid systems joining connectivity and convenience functions. Ford SYNC 3 allows smartphone connectivity with the on-board infotainment system.
Bi-Xenon HID headlamps now include Adaptive Front Lighting, which adjusts the intensity and angle of the light beam in relation to vehicle output for optimum visibility. Cross Traffic Alert warns when other vehicles are about to cross the ST's path when reversing, and Active City Stop prepares the brakes if a potential impact is detected.
Modelled on Ford's latest design approach, the ST projects an aggressive look from front to back. The wide front grille sits beneath a contoured bonnet, and equally precise folds sweep down each flank. The rear lamps have been reshaped, and a twin exhaust pipe sits at the centre of the bumper. Stylish alloy wheels sit over painted callipers to complete the exterior appeal.
Ford's designers have crafted the cabin to complement every journey, stripping away numerous buttons for a clean and intuitive finish. A cluster of three performance gauges have been added, and further motorsport influences include the flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Gripping performance is the model's primary draw, and Ford hasn't compromised with this latest iteration. A new 183bhp 2.0-litre TDCi engine gives 400Nm of torque to surge from 0-60mph in around eight seconds, yet it still returns a peak of 62.4mpg with just 114g/km of CO2 emitted. A new sports exhaust system, air intake and electronic calibration enables this thrilling yet efficient drive, and an equally impressive 247bhp 2.0-litre turbo charged EcoBoost unit is the alternative powertrain.
