Emma's Accessible Day Out

Last Saturday we decided to take a trip through to Glasgow to check out some of the attractions. First up was the Botanic Gardens in the West End of Glasgow.

The Botanic Gardens are comprised of two large separate greenhouses. It also has a tearoom set in an old sandstone house within the grounds. If you have a disabled blue badge you can drive straight inside and park at the front of the greenhouses, which is so handy.

To our surprise, there was an arts and crafts makers market taking place inside The Botanic Gardens. It was lovely to browse the stalls of beautiful handmade items and what a pretty setting being amongst the array of tropical plants and flowers.

We then headed over to the other greenhouse which contained cactus and various other large tropical plantations. It was very wet and gloomy outside but it was a great way to spend an otherwise bland Saturday and was such a welcome escape from the rain.

After this, we decided to stop into the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Unsurprisingly it wasn't too busy being a bit later in the day. It was nice to wander around the different rooms containing art and animal taxidermy. We grabbed a tea from the shop to heat us up and sat and took in the atmosphere in the huge main hall in which the beautiful real Christmas tree sat in the corner.

It was then time for dinner at one of our favourite restaurants, Bella Italia in Silverburn Shopping Centre. I ordered a pasta dish which was delicious. Afterwards, we enjoyed a stroll around some of the stores for Christmas shopping before heading home.

On Sunday we went a drive in the car and ended up at our local Dobbie’s Garden Centre in Stirling. It was looking festive with all their Christmas items on display including their selection of real Christmas trees.

We had a good look around then picked up some Christmas biscuits on the way out. Disabled parking at Dobbie’s can be a hit or miss with the disabled bays often being full. However, we managed to get our Ford Tourneo Connect parked pretty close to the entrance. All in all, it was a lovely and festive weekend.
