Rugged and supremely powerful with a go-anywhere attitude, the Ford Ranger is a vehicle for drivers who are always thinking about their next adventure and want an off-roader capable of keeping up. Winner of the International Pick-Up Award 2013, the Ford Ranger is as tough as they come and its exterior has been built to handle the harshest environments and tested accordingly.
Ford conducts 84,000 door shuts to ensure the mechanism is capable of staying the distance. Emphasis has also been firmly placed on fuel saving and the pick-up's restyled front end has made the model more aerodynamic, minimising wind resistance and boosting efficiency. The wide grille, large headlamps and considerable ground clearance add to the bold styling and give the model considerable presence.
While this pick-up has been designed to cope with the most inhospitable terrain, inside the cabin driver and passengers are treated to a high level of comfort. With the kind of build quality you have come to expect from a Ford, the interior of the Ranger is solid and hardwearing, and just like the exterior, able to cope with the toughest environments. The colour schemes give the interior a light and spacious feel, yet are still able to hide some of the dirt. Available in three cab styles – XLT, Limited and Wildtrak – trim levels vary across the range, from the velour seats of the entry-level model to perforated leather and Alcantara upholstery at the top end.
Fully-adjustable front seats ensure total comfort and maximum visibility, while extra legroom in the rear of the cab means passengers also get to travel in absolute comfort. In-car entertainment varies between models, but features include MP3 and CD audio, voice recognition technology, Bluetooth® connectivity and sat nav.
Powering the pick-up is a new range of Duratorq Stage V diesel engines, offering an abundance of power and torque yet impressive economy at the same time. For example, the 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine is capable of delivering 148bhp and maximum torque of 375Nm, yet still manages up to 35.3mpg combined. A new steering system in place across the range has improved handling and manoeuvrability at low speeds, while larger wheels have been fitted to improve grip.
Safety is of course central to the design of this vehicle and beneath the Ranger's steel safety cage lies a comprehensive system of airbags designed to protect occupants in the event of an accident. Additional features include ABS, Emergency Brake Assist, a seatbelt reminder and Load Adaptive Control.
