Emma's adventure to watch The 1975.

One of my favourite bands is The 1975. Whenever they announce a new tour we try and book tickets for as many shows as possible. Our first show of 2020 and first of many The 1975 shows of the year took us to the Utilita Arena in Newcastle.

We set off for our trip on Sunday afternoon and made it to Newcastle for 4pm. We booked the Premier Inn Millennium Bridge hotel due to its close proximity to the arena. Disabled parking bays are available in the hotel car park near the front entrance at an overnight charge of £5.

We took the lift up to reception and checked in. Our accessible room was comfortable with space to move around in my wheelchair. Unfortunately, the bathroom didn't have a roll-in shower, only a bath. The receptionist advised the rooms will be getting refurbished and roll-in showers will be fitted.

With a few hours until show time, we ordered Pizza and ate it in our room. We often order takeout food when staying in hotels as it is convenient and gives me time to rest and get ready without feeling rushed.

It was then time to make our way to the Utilita Arena. Once there we managed to get a space in the disabled parking area for £7.

There are various accessible viewing areas within the arena, but we were in block 101. This gives a fantastic view of the stage and you feel so close to the band.

This ramped up the excitement for The 1975 to come out and perform. As always they did not disappoint. From start to finish the set was packed with all the fan favourites and a few new tracks from their soon to be released fourth studio album. It was a brilliant night.

We can't wait for their shows in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. I guess you can call us dedicated fans.

The following morning was a lovely sunny day so we decided to head out and enjoy a bit of Newcastle before driving home.

After a wander along the River Tyne, we drove to the Angel of the North. It has been around eleven years since we last stopped to see the angel so we were pleased to see there is now a car park with disabled bays. This was great and made visiting the angel much easier.

We always enjoy our time visiting Newcastle and look forward to our next visit in the summer when we are back to see Kings of Leon at the same arena. Howay, man!
