A Day Out in Liverpool With Sarah Alexander

We arrived in the city centre of Liverpool just after midday; there’s plenty of parking with vast amounts of disabled spaces, the majority of all you have to pay for. We parked in the Q car park part of Liverpool One. It has quite a few levels with lifts and escalators to take you up to the shopping area.

The whole of Liverpool One is level access with a wide variety of shops. On the ground floor there are a few cafes and I grabbed a hot chocolate from Thorntons to keep my hands warm as there was a chill in the air.

After looking in a few stores, we headed to the second floor of Liverpool One where there are a lot of restaurants and fast food places; including Nandos, Café Rouge, Five Guys, Yo Sushi and Pizza Express, to name a few. There’s literally somewhere up there to eat whatever your preference and every place is accessible. My boyfriend, best friend and I decided we’d go for pizza and headed to Pizza Hut as it never disappoints.

Upon entering we were seated immediately; the aisles between tables were wide and easy to navigate which is always a bonus when you’re handling a powerchair. The waitress moved a chair out of the way so I could get my chair close to the table and we all decided what pizza we wanted. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious.

After that we took the lift to the ground floor and went into the city centre to have a look at some more shops. I had zero problems with access; every store I wanted to go to was well laid out and not an obstacle course in sight.

We also went to the Bluecoats Gallery which is free to enter, and as well as the artwork has a lovely courtyard at the back. The current exhibitions are really interesting and I highly recommend you check it out.

Finally we headed to Hotel Chocolat as my coffee-loving boyfriend and best friend wanted to sample it. I ended up getting another hot chocolate, and we found a table to have them at. The café part of the building was quite small but we managed to find a space to enjoy our drinks.

Liverpool One is really impressive in terms of disabled access and I would highly recommend you check it out.
