This means that the options for new car buyers are extremely limited and there are serious concerns that supply of new cars is going to drastically tighten in the not so distant future. The global shortage first became a concern during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic across the world because the factories that manufactured the chips had to close. Now that these factories have re-opened, demand has surged and this is causing delays across many sectors, not just in the motor industry.
We are anticipating this to have serious ramifications on new car availability in the coming weeks. So much so that we anticipate at some point in July, customers buying a new car in July will expect to wait until 2022 to take delivery of their car.
