Elizabeth's Internship at Peoples Ford

I applied for the Intern role at Peoples Ford through the Black Scot Intern programme and joined the team here at Peoples Ford for a three month summer internship at the start of July and have learnt so much about the role and the business in the time I've been here.

To know time isn’t always on your side, is to make positive use of every moment of it. In a twinkle of an eye, three awesome months has flown by and the end of the starting point happens to be today! My journey with Peoples Ford has been nothing short of great experience, from the people, to the line of duty as a social media intern. I was privileged to be informed of how the business works in general and how the marketing team contributes to the growth and sales of the business at large. Asides gaining hands on experience from every member of my team, I also had the opportunity to join the team on official trips to different cities to learn how the business works from other locations and departments. Learning different aspects of the teams roles was great, from being part of the planning stage for video shoots, to then being on the shoot, helping with the final edit through to being part of the team that helped to get live on the business social media channels and website.

Part of my time at Peoples Ford was being involved in the work that Greg the videographer does. This picture was on a recent shoot with the Puma and Fiesta ST models that I helped the team with. It was actually one of my very first days here that we headed out to film it. It's now live and you can watch it here.

It was a privilege to meet with the Chairman, Brian Gilda. He was not a man of many words but the few spoken words were inspiring and liberating. This shows one thing that Peoples Ford as a whole is all about her people in every sense of what it stands for. What is more, as a fast pace driven organisation, the drive for success and growth is paramount to every decision that’s being made.

Being with Peoples for twelve weeks has being all good as I’ve been able to acquire transferrable experience in soft skills such as interpersonal skills, communication, teamwork and time management. What more can I say when it comes to my dear marketing team, it’s been the best with them. I commend the strength, and mental stability of everyone as even in the midst of pressure, they all still find a way to make working fun. These qualities are contagious and have been imbibed.

To my HOD John, thank you for your timely little conversations that are soul lifting, My amiable Social Media Manager Aisha, I can’t thank you enough for all I’ve learnt, the shared knowledge, and all you’ve exposed me to on the business. You are the best! To Greg, Antonio, and Liam thank you for your care and support on the job.

I won’t also fail to say a big thank you to Lesley for those encouraging conversations during lunch time. To my dearest HR manager Jenn, thank you for making yourself available all the way. You have helped me in so many impactful ways and I’m grateful. In all, I’m thankful for the beautiful moments I’ve shared with everyone in the business.

I headed to Liverpool with the team to learn more about the three Liverpool sites Peoples Ford have. While I was there with the team, I helped with the filming of our people and development pieces. It was great fun and the best way to meet so many different individuals across different departments at our Liverpool sites. In total we filmed 15 different individuals throughout the day.
