A: I originally went to university but I quickly found out it wasn’t for me. I realised that I prefer to learn on the job and instead of constantly being in a classroom. I’d heard good things about the Apprenticeship programme via Peoples and SkillNet as it is such a renowned brand and company so I applied and got the job.
What does your apprenticeship involve?
A: As a parts apprentice I am learning a range of things such as serving internal and external customers both in person and over the phone. Furthermore, I help identify parts on our ford parts system (microcat) and order them promptly for our technicians to fit.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
A: I enjoy the fact that I am learning whilst working as I am gaining vital experience within the motor trade. Also, I enjoy the workplace environment and my colleagues all make me feel welcome and a part of the team therefore helping me grow as a person and employee.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship with Peoples?
A: My dad was a mechanic so I have always had a genuine interest in cars from a young age. I always wanted to do something that was hands on so when I saw the role advertised with Peoples I knew it was something I would like.
What does your apprenticeship involve?
A: It’s a mixture of college blocks where you learn from the trainers at Henry Ford Academy and then you take that learning back to the workshop and start to put it into practice. You get regular visits from your Assessor and you are buddied up with different members of the Peoples team so that you learn a range of skills.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
A: I loved it when I got my own ramp. My favourite part was the hands on learning and being paired with People that would let you learn on the job at your pace. I loved learning how to complete engine jobs and now that I have completed my apprenticeship I get to work on them every day. Would recommend the programme.
