Ahead of the very first Peoples Ford Parkinson's Walking Football Festival, we spent time with John Roche & his team Northern Lights FC. Northern Lights are a voluntary group based in Liverpool that are building a community in which empathy, support and the encouragement to achieve new goals are their priority.
Northern Lights as a voluntary group help support people with Parkinson's, their partners, families and carers - all of whom play a critical role in the management of the condition - and offer a range of activities including entertainment, the arts, wellbeing and mindfulness and also sports including walking football.
We headed along to spend the day with their very own walking football team and players, learning more about the Parkinson’s condition, how it individually affects each of the players and why being part of Northern Lights Walking Football Club is so important. We really enjoyed being at Brunswick Community Centre with the team.
Peoples Ford Parkinson’s Walking Football Club is about real people with real stories. Visiting Northern Lights, one of the eight teams joining us from Liverpool for the festival, was an amazing opportunity to see first-hand what an amazing community spirit they have built, and just how important walking football is to people with Parkinson's.

The story of Northern Lights is the reason we are so proud to have hosted Scotland's first Parkinson's Walking Football Festival. In partnership with Glasgow Life, we welcomed 8 teams from across the UK to Glasgow to compete, with the aim of raising as much awareness as possible for Parkinson's and all the great benefits walking football can bring to those who have the condition.

Peoples Ford Parkinson's Walking Football Festival
Hosted by Glasgow Life & proudly sponsored by Peoples Ford, the Parkinson's Walking Football Festival was a roaring success at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Glasgow. The European capital of sport welcomed 8 different teams from across both Scotland & England to the city of Glasgow to compete against each other and raise awareness of Parkinson's. Here at Peoples Ford, we were absolutely delighted and honoured to sponsor such a terrific event, furthermore, we are thrilled to do so in association with Parkinson's UK, Celtic FC Foundation & Motability.
The festival was a tremendous occasion for all involved and all those who came along to cheer on the teams. Currently in the UK, over 150,000 people are living with Parkinson's. We hope occasions like this can raise as much awareness of the condition as possible and encourage those with and without the condition to get active, interact with others in the community, and have some fun while they're at it!

Northern Lights crowned Peoples Ford Walking Football Festival CHAMPIONS!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce Northern Lights as the 2023 Peoples Ford Walking Football Festival Champions. The guys from Brunswick, Liverpool put on a series of fantastic performances to come out on top and claim the amazing trophy at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Glasgow. We want to congratulate all teams who participated in the event and entertained us all throughout the day, every single individual represented their teams brilliantly and each played their part in raising awareness of Parkinson's and the hugely important benefits of walking football and physical exercise for those who have the condition. There of course was only room for one winner, and Northern Lights carried their community spirt off the field on to the pitch and came out on top as worthy champions.
