Unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the new Ford Kuga has received not just a visual overhaul but now also has a diesel engine alternative and an upgraded Ford SYNC infotainment system.
The redesigned bonnet features a rippled look that, apart from catching the eye, is intended to decrease any impact on pedestrians in the event of a collision. Self-adjusting bi-xenon headlamps provide a powerful and adaptable beam. LED daytime running lights ensure the Kuga remains visible and an extra dash of illuminated distinctiveness. Front fog lamps help to cut through strong mist. Alloy wheel sizes start at 17 inches, rising to 19 inches. At the back of the Kuga, the tail lights have received a revamp and a power-operated tailgate can be opened by simply waving your foot below the rear bumper – particularly convenient when you are loading your belongings.
The cabin has been simplified to provide a more intuitive interface between driver and car. There are now fewer buttons that make operation of, for example, air-conditioning much simpler. A heated steering wheel is also now available as an option and all models have received a new electronic parking brake.
A new 1.5-litre 120bhp TDCi diesel engine has been added. With front-wheel drive, it delivers as much as 64.2mpg and a CO2 emission figure as low as 115g/km. Also available is a 2.0-litre 150bhp TDCi diesel option, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. This ensures the Kuga is capable of up to 60.1mpg and produces CO2 ¬emissions from 122g/km.
SYNC 3 features an eight-inch touchscreen that enables connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Simple voice commands can now be used to instruct the car. Vehicles fitted with all-wheel drive now feature hands-free perpendicular parking, an enhanced rendering of Ford’s Active City Stop safety technology. Cross Traffic Alert makes you aware of approaching vehicles as you reverse out of a parking space. Meanwhile, Park Out Assist uses rear and front sensors to send instructions to the car’s display screen, helping to guide you out of a tight parking spot.
